Our Distinguished Board

The Native Star Foundation is a Native -Led non-profit organization that focuses on empowering Native American youth through education and mentorships. Tulare County, located in California, has a diverse population that includes Native American communities. According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, as of 2019, there were approximately 19,000 people in Tulare County who identified as Native American or Alaska Native alone or in combination with other races. This accounts for about 4.5% of the county’s total population.

It’s important to note that Native American populations within Tulare County, as well as throughout the United States, are not homogeneous. There are multiple tribal nations represented, each with its own unique demographics, cultural practices, and histories. The specific demographics of Native American communities within Tulare County may vary depending on factors such as tribal affiliation, reservation lands, and migration patterns.

Native Star Foundation currently administers projects funded by the State of California for a tobacco education and awareness program, a cannabis prevention and education program and NSF is a chartered Boys and Girls Club, Native Services club. The projects vary in service focus, so we serve the indigenous communities including youth ages 6-18, youth ages 12-24, elders and families. In the city of Porterville there are numerous tribal members residing locally but identify as tribes from all over the US including the membership of the Tule River Tribe. We do not require tribal verification for any of our programs or services; these participants are self-identified.
